Prayer for the Day

Almighty and everlasting God,
who in your tender love towards the human race
sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ
to take upon him our flesh
and to suffer death upon the cross:
grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility,
and also be made partakers of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

About Us

Minworth is mentioned in the Domesday Book and is one of the oldest settlements in the region. It was formerly a detached hamlet of Curdworth and in 1909 the Bishop of Birmingham dedicated the Church of St George on Minworth Green (a chapel of Curdworth). The historian William Dargue described the building as "built in brick with stone dressings in a simple Early English style. There is a 3-lancet (liturgical) east window and a large 4-lancet west window in Early English Gothic. The building is not geographically aligned east-west, the east end almost faces north. There is a bellcote above the entrance brought from Water Orton old church. It has a single, one hundredweight tolling bell. The bell is inscribed: + I WILL SOVND AND CALL THE CONGREGATION 1709".

S. George has served the village of Minworth since 1909. It is now part of the Castle Vale Parish, with S. Cuthbert of Lindisfarne. The present incumbent is The Reverend Father James Cope S.S.C.

Church Services

The Church is here for every part of life, including baptism, confirmation, marriage and funerals. There are however other times when people feel the need to come to God; Confession (the sacrament of reconciliation) is when people freely tell God what troubles them and hear his absolution. Some people wish to have their homes blessed, and others wish to hold a service to remember someone special. If you have any questions the clergy are happy to discuss any of these services.

Mass

The Mass is our main service celebrated on Sunday mornings: Readings from scripture {the Bible}, homily {a short sermon} and Holy Communion/Eucharist

Prayer

Prayer is at the heart of worship and Daily Prayer happens each day throughout the Church.

Baptism (or Christening) marks the beginning of a new journey in faith. Baptism takes place regularly during the year.

Safeguarding

The Church of England is committed to Promoting a Safer Church for everyone. Safeguarding is the action the Church takes to promote a safer culture.

We will seek to promote the welfare of children, young people and adults, work to prevent abuse from occurring, protect those that are at risk of being abused and respond well to those that have been abused. We will take care to identify where a person may present a risk to others, and offer support to them whilst taking steps to mitigate such risks.
